Overview
In No-Touch PRK the surface layer of the cornea and the tissue beneath it are shaped in a single excimer laser step, with no instrument ever touching the eye. Because no flap is made, no thickness is spent on flap tissue, which is why it is chosen for corneas that are on the thin side and for people whose work or sport carries a real risk of a blow to the eye. The trade-off is recovery: the surface layer takes several days to close and a protective contact lens is worn until it does. That is why the stay is 5–6 days and desk work waits about 7 days.

Measurements and decision
If topography and pachymetry show that a flap would be unwise, surface laser is recommended. The size of your prescription and your corneal thickness are weighed together.

Treatment and bandage lens
The excimer laser shapes the surface and the tissue below in one step, then a protective contact lens is placed. It stays in for several days while the surface heals.

Lens removal and flight home
Once the surface has closed, the bandage lens is removed and your vision measured. You then travel home with a written drop schedule.
Aftercare & long-term tips
Keep to the drop schedule after the bandage lens comes out; steroid drops are usually tapered over several weeks. Wear sunglasses with ultraviolet protection for the first three months and do not rub your eyes. Vision fluctuates in the early weeks, so if you notice a lasting drop in clarity see an eye doctor at home and send us the findings.

Risks and an honest expectation
Marked pain and light sensitivity in the first two to three days are expected, not a complication. The real risks are delayed surface healing, haze from the healing tissue, night haloes and, in a minority, not landing exactly on the target prescription. Infection while the bandage lens is in place is uncommon but serious, which is why you stay in Istanbul until the lens is removed.
