Veneers vs Crowns: Which Is Right for You?
They look similar but work very differently. Here's how to choose — and protect your healthy teeth.

The key difference
A veneer is a thin shell bonded to the front of a tooth, removing only a small layer. A crown caps the whole tooth and is used when a tooth is heavily damaged, root-treated or broken down.
How much tooth is removed?
Veneers are far more conservative, preserving most of your natural tooth. Crowns require more preparation. A good dentist always recommends the most conservative option that will work for each tooth.
Which lasts longer?
Both high-quality porcelain veneers and crowns typically last 10–15 years or more with good care. Crowns are stronger for back and heavily restored teeth; veneers excel for front-tooth cosmetics.
How to choose
Ask your dentist to assess each tooth individually — many smiles combine both. Beware any clinic that crowns healthy teeth by default; that's the mistake behind the 'Turkey teeth' headlines.
