Once that's complete, the final crown is fitted. Most discomfort is limited to the first few days, and you can fly home within a day or two of surgery.

Implant healing has two phases: quick soft-tissue healing in the first couple of weeks, then the slower, silent process of the implant fusing with your jawbone (osseointegration) over a few months. For most people, the discomfort is milder and shorter than expected. Surgery itself is painless under local anaesthetic; afterwards, the first two or three days may bring mild swelling and soreness that simple over-the-counter painkillers handle well. By the end of the first week most patients feel essentially normal. The long healing period that follows is completely painless — you won't feel the implant integrating with the bone.

Healing is mostly about gentle, sensible care. Stick to soft foods for the first few days, keep the area clean as instructed, avoid smoking (which slows healing), and don't disturb the surgical site with your tongue or hard foods. Follow your clinic's aftercare plan and keep in touch remotely if you have any concerns. Good daily oral hygiene throughout is what protects the long-term result.

In the standard timeline, the permanent crown is fitted once osseointegration is complete — usually 3–6 months after placement, on a second visit.
