Why choose Clinic Mery for eye surgery

In laser eye treatment, the procedure itself is short; the real work happens in the examination beforehand. Corneal thickness, corneal topography, pupil diameter, tear film quality, and whether your prescription has been stable for the last two years are all measured. These measurements determine which method suits you — or indeed whether any of them do. Not everyone is suitable for laser treatment, and only an examination can tell you that.

For patients found suitable, the procedure takes a total of 10–20 minutes for both eyes; anaesthetic eye drops are used, and there are no injections. You return to your hotel the same day, and for most patients, vision is noticeably clear by the next morning. Staying 3–4 days in Istanbul allows for your next-day and third-day check-ups.

No method is recommended until a thorough examination, including topography and pachymetry, has been carried out. If you're not suitable, we'll tell you, and suggest alternatives or waiting instead.

Check-ups fit within your stay

Your next-day and third-day check-ups are carried out while you're still in Istanbul. We confirm together that your vision is progressing as expected before you fly home.

3–4 days in Istanbul, day by day

This is the typical course for laser treatments; a smart lens extends the stay to 5–6 days and cataract surgery to 4–5.

  1. Day 1

    Arrival and detailed examination

    You're welcomed and settled into your hotel, followed by topography, corneal thickness, pupil and tear film tests. Your suitability and treatment method are confirmed at this examination.

  2. Day 2

    Procedure day

    Both eyes are treated in the same session, in 10–20 minutes, under anaesthetic eye drops. You rest for a few hours afterwards, then return to your hotel with protective glasses and your eye drops.

  3. Day 3

    First check-up

    Visual acuity is measured, and corneal healing is checked. Most patients have already reached driving-standard vision by this examination.

  4. Day 4

    Final check-up and departure

    A second check-up, your eye-drop schedule, and departure. There's no issue with flying; simply keep using your drops on schedule during the flight.

The examination matters more than the procedure

In eye surgery, the single most important safety step is choosing the right patient. Possible effects include dry eye, glare and haloes in night vision, and, in a small number of patients, the need for a retreatment; infection and corneal irregularity are rare but possible. A glasses prescription sent remotely isn't enough to confirm suitability; the final decision is made after measurements taken in Istanbul. If you're not found suitable at examination, the procedure won't go ahead, and we'll explain exactly why.
