Overview
LASIK corrects short sight, long sight and astigmatism by lifting a thin flap on the front of the cornea and reshaping the tissue underneath with an excimer laser. In classic LASIK that flap is cut with a microkeratome, a blade-based device; in Femto-LASIK it is created with a femtosecond laser. The treatment is done under anaesthetic drops, with no injection and no stitches, and both eyes are done in one session of roughly 15 minutes. Which method your eyes can take is decided only after corneal topography and pachymetry in Istanbul.

Aftercare & long-term tips
Use your drops exactly to the schedule, keep your hands away from your eyes for the first week and wear the protective shields at night for as long as advised. Wait two to four weeks before swimming pools, the sea and saunas, and let your surgeon set the date for contact sports. You can have your one-month and three-month checks with an optometrist or eye doctor at home and send us the results.

Risks and an honest expectation
As with any laser treatment, dry eye, night-time glare and haloes are common in the first weeks and settle in most patients within one to three months. A minority do not land exactly on the target prescription and may need an enhancement, which is only possible if enough corneal thickness remains. Flap displacement, corneal irregularity and infection are rare, and the early checks built into your stay exist precisely to catch them.
