Overview
FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, removes follicles one at a time from the back and sides of the scalp with a 0.7–0.9 mm cylindrical punch and places them in the thinning area; because no strip of skin is taken, there is no linear scar. In classic FUE the recipient channels are cut with steel micro-blades and grafts are placed with forceps. Sapphire FUE and DHI are variations of the same operation — extraction is identical in all three, only the recipient-site instrument changes.

Blood tests and planning

Extraction and placement
Grafts are harvested individually with a micromotor punch and placed with forceps into channels cut with steel micro-blades. The session runs 6–8 hours with breaks.

First wash and flight home
The first wash is done at the clinic the next day and taught to you, and your medication and aftercare sheet are handed over.
Aftercare & long-term tips
Follow the washing routine for the first ten days, leave the crusts alone and sleep with your head elevated. Wait two weeks before heavy exercise, saunas and direct sun, and only wear a hat once your surgeon says you can. Photo reviews follow at months three, six and twelve.

Stick to soft, lukewarm foods and drinks; avoid very hot or hard items while any numbness or sensitivity settles.
First few days
Ease back into normal eating as sensitivity fades — usually within a few days.

Risks and an honest expectation
Possible complications include temporary numbness and tenderness in the donor area, folliculitis in the recipient area, a few days of swelling across the forehead and around the eyes, and a proportion of grafts failing to take. Over-harvesting can thin the donor area permanently, so we do not exceed the planned number. Surgery is postponed if there is a bleeding disorder or uncontrolled diabetes.
