Overview
Botox is an injection treatment that temporarily relaxes the muscles of the forehead, between the brows and at the outer eye, softening the lines that movement creates. It needs no anaesthetic and takes about 20 minutes. The effect is not permanent: the first change appears at 3–5 days, the result settles at about one month, and it generally wears off after 3–4 months.

Risks and an honest expectation
The known side effects are temporary: bruising at the injection points, a headache lasting a few days, and drooping of the eyelid or brow if the toxin spreads beyond the target muscle. That droop is not permanent and resolves as the effect fades, though it can last several weeks. Allergic reactions are rare. For this reason the dose is kept conservative at a first treatment, the result is reviewed in the second week, and any correction is made then.
