Overview
Breast augmentation adds volume using a silicone implant placed under the muscle or under the breast tissue. At Clinic Mery it takes about 90 minutes under general anaesthetic, you stay one night in hospital, and the contour settles at six months. Implant size is not chosen from a cup size you name; it is worked out from chest width, tissue thickness and skin elasticity.

Examination and implant selection
Chest width, nipple position and tissue thickness are measured, and sizers are used to establish a realistic volume range. If there is droop, you are told at this point that an implant alone will not correct it.

Surgery and one night in hospital
The operation takes about 90 minutes under general anaesthetic; you spend the night in hospital and are discharged the next day.

Checks, wound care and flight clearance
Your wounds and implant position are reviewed at follow-up and sports bra use is explained. With your surgeon's approval you fly home on day 7–8.
Aftercare & long-term tips
Once home, wear the sports bra day and night for the period advised and avoid upper body weight training and strenuous overhead movements for six weeks. Continue wound care and silicone scar treatment. Always tell the radiographer that you have implants when you attend breast screening or a mammogram, and remote follow-up continues by photograph.

Stick to soft, lukewarm foods and drinks; avoid very hot or hard items while any numbness or sensitivity settles.
First few days
Ease back into normal eating as sensitivity fades — usually within a few days.

Risks and an honest expectation
Breast augmentation carries risks specific to the implant: capsular contracture that hardens the breast, rupture or leakage, visible rippling in thin tissue, changes in nipple sensation that can be permanent, seroma, haematoma and infection. Implants are not lifetime devices and may need replacing in the future. A very rare lymphoma has also been associated mainly with textured implants. You are given the type and batch number of your implant in writing, and long-term follow-up is advised.
