Overview
Hair loss in women usually spreads diffusely as a widening parting rather than as a receding line, which is why the cause has to be investigated before any surgery is considered. Thyroid function, iron stores, post-partum shedding and hormonal patterns are checked with blood tests. In women who are suitable candidates, a 6–8 hour session usually moves 2,000–4,000 grafts, and in most plans the recipient area is not shaved.

Blood tests and finding the cause
On arrival day thyroid, iron and any relevant hormone levels are reviewed. If the shedding has a treatable cause, we recommend treating that before any transplant.

Unshaven planning and surgery
Your hairline or density area is drawn, small windows are opened in the donor area, and grafts are placed with your long hair kept intact. The session takes 6–8 hours.

First wash and flight home
The first wash is done at the clinic the next day, with extra guidance for long hair. You are clear to fly on day three.
Aftercare & long-term tips
When washing long hair, work the foam up in your palm and lay it on without pressing, and keep a comb away from the treated area for ten days. Wait at least a month before tight ponytails, hair dye and hairdryer heat. Photo reviews follow at months three, six and twelve.

Risks and an honest expectation
The most common issue in women is temporary shock loss of the fine existing hairs in a densified area; these usually return within about three months. Beyond that, swelling, numbness, folliculitis and a proportion of grafts failing to take can all occur. If the underlying cause is not treated, shedding will continue after surgery as well.
